Coloured Sands...

The Coloured Sands include two locations, the Cathedrals names so as they resemble European cathedrals in appearance and the Pinnacles which are arguably the best sculptured coloured sands on Fraser Island.

The different colours of these two features are formed by the various levels of iron oxide in the sand causing the red, brown, yellow and orange colours seen here in the photos. |
The amazing spires and peaks are created by the slow erosion of the cliff wall by wind and rain blowing in off the Pacific Ocean.
